Wigan Athletic Degradasi Liga Inggris 2013 – Beberapa hari lalu Klub Liga Inggris Wigan Athletic sukses menjuarai Piala FA usai mengalahkan klub besar Manchester City yang berada diperingkat 2 klasemen Liga Inggris. Namun Kini Wigan justru terdegradasi dari Liga Primer Inggris.
Kepastian bahwa Wigan terdegradasi musim ini dan akan bermain di divisi Championship musim depan itu berkaitan erat dengan hasil pertandingannya ketika melawat ke Emirates markas Arsenal, Rabu (15/5/2013) dinihari WIB.
Dalam pertandingan pekan ke-37 Liga Primer Inggris tersebut, WiganA kalah 1-4dari Arsenal, yang sedang berusaha memastikan tiket ke Liga Champions musim depan.
Kendatipun masih memiliki satu laga sisa, Wigan sudah dipastikan terdegradasi mengingat raihan angkanya saat ini, 35 poin, takkan bisa melampui Sunderland di posisi 17.
Dalam beberapa musim terakhir, Wigan sejatinya memang sudah terus-terusan akrab dengan zona maut, meski akhirnya selalu luput dari degradasi. Kalau musim lalu Wigan ada di posisi 15, selama dua musim sebelumnya mereka selalu menghuni posisi 16.
Maka hasil ini jelas menjadi pukulan yang cukup telak untuk ‘Latics’ yang beberapa hari lalu berhasilA menjuarai Piala FAA usai mengalahkan Manchester City 1-0, yang mana juga berbuah tiket ke Liga Europa musim depan.
Dengan fakta-fakta tersebut, sebagaimana dicatat Reuters, Wigan kini menjadi tim pertama yang terdegradasi dari kompetisi kasta teratas Inggris di musim yang sama ketika mereka menjuarai Piala FA.
