Chelsea menghadapi Benfica di Amsterdam Arena, Kamis (16/5/2013) dan sukses memenangi partai final itu dengan skorA 2-1A lewat gol Branislav Ivanovic di masaA injury timeA babak kedua.
Ini adalah trofi kedua Chelsea di Eropa dalam setahun terakhir setelah kesuksesan mereka menjuarai Liga Champions musim 2011/2012. Mereka jadi tim pertama di Eropa yang mampu merengkuh dua trofi kompetisi Eropa dalam waktu bersamaan — final Liga Champions musim ini baru digelar 10 hari mendatang –.
Selain itu, Chelsea juga mensejajarkan diri dengan tiga tim besar Eropa lain seperti Ajax, Bayern dan Juve yang mampu memenangi seluruh turnamen di Eropa. Chelsea sebelumnya sudah memenangi Piala Winners di tahun 1971 dan 1998.
